Altenew June Inspiration Challenge Card #5

Altenew has a monthly inspiration challenge that I highly anticipate. To me it is an opportunity to not only try new color combinations but also to try new techniques and new supplies. Check out the monthly post at https://blog.altenew.com

A retreat class taught by Erum Tasneem was the main inspiration for this card. She introduced a coloring technique she termed Transitional Ink Blending. In the class Erum used water color markers. This is my version of the technique using alcohol markers.

The Ambridge Rose on the left is predominately colored in shades of pink. That pink slowly transitions to lavender then deep purple on the right rose.

Different card shapes are one way to change up a card. This is a 5 1/2 ” Square card. Yes. It costs a little more to mail. But this is a special card for a special person’s special occasion. This IS my gift to them.

The new Embellished Star Die is fresh out of the box and wanting to be used. This inspiration challenge is the perfect time to initiate it. It’s a really big die. I cut off some edges to make it the size I needed. It is more square this way as well.

On the cardstock mat behind the Embellished Star I cut a 3 1/2″ square, lined it with acetate and foam tape to form a shaker. Brushed silver cardstock is on the card base. Sequins and bobbles in pinks and purples shimmer in the shaker box.

The sentiment from Sweet Sentiments is die cut from Pink Brilliance Glitter Cardstock and backed in white.

An added note:

As usual, this is the finished, final card but many pieces before this were tried and eliminated.

Designing the card usually takes far longer than actually making it. This is not the card I had envisioned. I was going for a black background. But what I had in my head was too dark in real life. The floral image stands out much better with the white background and black Embellished Star.

I also tried a purple and pink ombre wash for the background. With that the definition of the floral image was a little lost as well.

The brushed sliver background worked beautifully to give a little shine and added interest without detracting from the image.

This is a fun process. I start knowing the final product will probably involve many pivots along the way.
