Beautiful Details Level II

Marika Rahtu presented a look I just love . . .  sort of Asian and pen sketched.  It’s not easily accomplished.  After watching Marika’s video over and over I attempted to create that look over and over with a layer from the Tulip stamp set and Tombow markers.  The beautiful details come from the sketch marks made with a 01 Micron black pen.

It is an intriguing technique.  It’s also a whole new way to look at the individual layers of the Altenew stamp sets.

Lesson #4 involved coloring with alcohol markers on vellum.  Beautiful details are added with Faber-Castell Polychromo Pencils.
The card Marika designed on her video presented me with an additional challenge; using only a slight bit of color.
She spoke of the stages of coloring going from something unattractive to something that actually looked like  a flower.  That encouraged me to keep adding layers to my ugly flower until it became quite pretty!  More than one flower ended up in the trash can during the learning process .   Isn’t that the point of taking a class?  It’s so rewarding to take on a challenge, work hard then be pleased with the results!

The stamps on this card come from Flower Garden and Heartfelt Sentiments.

By class #6 I was craving some color.  This water color pastel look satisfied that need.  However, this technique took me Way Way out of my comfort zone.  Coloring with alcohol markers then adding details with colored pencils is a trademark for Marika.  I am in awe of the look she is able to create with a combination of these two mediums.   The alcohol markers bring the soft background.  The colored pencils add detail that you can’t get with a marker.

The Altenew set used for this card is Oriental Orchid.  I mistakenly ordered the Korean version.
Look at that beautiful script!  I have no idea what it says.  Should I give it to my friend, Regina, then ask her what it says?
