Stencils Unleashed (An Altenew Academy Class)
Nicole Watt focused on Simple Coloring Stencils Day One. While I owned a couple Simple Coloring Stencils, I had never used them. So this was undiscovered territory for me.
Homework:
Kind Reminders was a Simple Coloring Stencil in my stash. I really had to study it, flip it around and hold it on top of the stamp set to figure out the various layers. Once I started inking with my blending brush it all made sense.
The background is embossing paste colored with ink that was squished on a craft mat. I used the second image of a flower on the stencil.
Sentiment is from Altenew’s Exotic Tulip set.
This is really a quick way to color a beautiful card!
Day Three I put a different twist on the homework assignment. The background stencil is Feeling Dotty. I used all four of the Rock Collection Grays going light to dark, bottom to top. Over that I used the darkest Warm and Cozy Red Crisp Dye Ink over the Flowering Hearts Stencil with a blending brush. Since dye ink is not sticky enough for embossing powder, I used VersaMark over the stencil again then applied clear embossing powder. The heart is all glossy and shiny.
I think I achieved a valentine that could be given to a guy!!
Day 5 was all about water color using stencils in different ways. I especially loved the real-time water coloring with Nicole. It could even have been a game-changer for my technique. She slowed me down and helped me not be so heavy-handed with her painting and gentle voice. It was kind of a Zen hour.
