Educators’ Instagram Hop

Every artist has a slightly different concept of mixed media. For me it includes a variety of texture, lots of dimension and the use of lots of supplies and techniques.

Mixed Media is very fun and can be quite messy.

I began with the (1) Narrow Brick Stencil and a vision of an Asian-influenced design. Using a (2) Large Blending Brush I inked the stencil with shades of (3) Falll Harvest Crisp Dye Ink. For texture (4) Clear Embossing Ink was added and heat set that with (5) Crystal Clear Embossing Powder. Eventually the edge of this piece was torn and the rough edge was inked as well.

Altenew (6) Embossing Paste was then mixed with (7) Gold Shimmer Spray.

The colored embossing paste was then applied over the (8) Flowing Butterfly stencil on (9) Jet Black Cardstock. The embossing spatula was used to make lumps and bumps in the paste. When dry (10) Antique Gold Pigment Ink was lightly brushed through the Narrow Brick Stencil onto the black background.

The Narrow Brick Stencil piece was torn and pop dotted to the black background. Splatter from Gold Shimmer Spray and (11) Jet Black Ink Spray were applied to the assembled card front.

(12) Spotted Orchid was stamped in (13) Tea Party and (14) Tropical Forest Crisp Dye Inks. The last layer was stamped in (15) Obsidian Black Ink and clear heat embossed. All pieces were splattered with (16)White and Gold Shimmer Spray then die cut.

The stem from (17) Dotted Blooms was die cut in (18) Gold Foil Cardstock.

The flower was assembled using pop dots and glue.

The sentiment was (20) gold heat embossed on Jet Black Cardstock. The lovely ladies at Altenew translated to Korean for me to mean Happy Birthday. The Korean is just so much prettier than the English.

A funky bow was made from (21) gold string and attached under the flower and Antique Gold Sequins were glued randomly in uneven numbers.

Lots of Supplies

I’ve never before counted the number of products I used on a card. 21 is extreme because this is mixed media.

Many Techniques, Texture and Dimension

Embossing was the technique used in many different ways to bring texture to the card front. This included

Embossing through stencils with Antique Gold Pigment Ink, Crisp Die Inks, Clear Embossing Ink and colored Embossing Paste. The torn edge also added yet another texture.

Pop Dots brought about depth to both the matted card and the flowers.

Gold Shimmer Spray, Sequins, String and Foil Cardstock added shine and sparkle.

Asian Influence

I am most pleased that the Narrow Brick Stencil was really transformed into a bamboo shade. The Oriental Orchid added to the Asian influence I was looking for.

Head over to your NEXT STOP: I am the last stop on the hop. Return to the beginning @altenewllc
