Thank you, Rebecca (www.pandemiccrafter.com) for sending the Altenew Fans my way.

If you get lost along the way return to Altenew Card Blog (https://wp.me/p6Dps1-eQ7)

The products in this release are just amazing!

Hot Foil Plates

All Kinds of Amazing
My First (EVER) Hot Foil Project

Every time someone would purchase a hot foil machine I was envious but continued to talk myself out of buying one. The I got word that Altenew would be releasing hot foil plates. Now a hot foil machine was an absolute necessity!

Opening that box with the hot foil machine was every bit as exciting as unwrapping a surprise box on my birthday. The instructions that came with my Glimmer Machine were read and reread. Many YouTube videos on the subject of hot foil machines were watched and rewatched.

I plugged in the machine, turned it on and waited for the various flashing lights to stop. The sandwich was checked and triple checked. (On my machine it’s the hot foil place text side up, foil pretty side down, cardstock, manufacturer’s shim and then the clear plate.

My results weren’t perfect the first or second time. But by the third time I had made all of the necessary corrections and my foil printed perfectly, centered and no excess foil on the card.

I learned my machine did not need an extra card stock shim as many machines do. The plate and card front were centered and lined up perfectly using the grid lines on the machine.

How could something so easy be so beautiful? Now I want to put foil on everything.

Supplies:

All Kinds of Amazing Hot Foil Plate

Dendrobium Orchid Layering Die Set

Gradient Card Stock and Glitter Card Stock

Glimmer Foil

Note: I used a tiny piece of foil for the center of the flower.

Splatter Holt Foil Plate

This was the first hot foil plate I put in my cart. I love splatter! Splatter with foil? Yes, please!

Stargazer was a perfect partner as these flowers actually have splatters. (And Stargazer is one of my favorite Altenew flowers.).

The sentiment die comes from Simple Greetings Die Set.

Black Foil is from Spellbinders.

Eucalyptus Wreath Hot Foil Plate on Water Color Paper

Hot Foiling can be done on water color paper and will beautifully resist the water color itself. Very smooth water color paper is best.

I used Altenew Water Color markers on this card. They are my favorite media because of their brilliant color and ease of use.

The sentiment from Winter Wishes is heat embossed in gold.

A few of my favorite tiny sequins are place near the sentiment.

A few tips and tricks for Hot Foiling:

There is tape on the back of the plate in the package. Remove the tape from the plate.

Watch YouTube videos to learn to use your brand of hot foiling machine. Each has different plate sandwiches to use and different instructions.

I found that the foil made specifically for my machine worked better than other brands in my machine.

Check and double-check how the foil, plate and card stock are lined up before heating. Some machines have a grid mat that is great for lining up the images.

Foil is difficult to cut as it has a plastic-like composition. Spellbinders has a Quick Trimmer with a blade that cuts foil beautifully. I also found Tim Holtz scissors with the red handle worked well.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. I played a lot and no plates or machines were damaged in the process. I didn’t even burn my fingers!

December 2021 Altenew Release

Happy Petals Stamps and Dies

Happy Petals colored with Alcohol Markers

This is such a pretty floral stamp set! I love the leaves and the flower petals that provide lots of opportunity for highlights.

It can harm alcohol markers if the nib touches heat embossed areas. In order to avoid damage, stamp the image in any alcohol safe ink using a Misti or other stamping tool. I keep the stamp in the Misti. When the alcohol marker coloring is finished, the image is put back in the Misti. Clear Embossing Ink is used to stamp the image again which is then heat-embossed with Rose Gold Embossing Powder.

The background is made with the Window Slats Geometric 3D Embossing Folder which has been swiped with Forest Glades Crisp Dye Ink on the inside.

The Frilly Frame Die was covered with clear embossing ink then dipped into Rose Gold Embossing powder and heat-embossed. It looks as if it is made of metal.

December 2021 Altenew Release

Playful Blooms 3D Embossing Folder

Playful Blooms 3D Embossing Folder

Altenew Antique gold Pigment Ink was generously applied directly onto the inside of the Playful Blooms 3D Embossing Folder. (Tap, tap, tapping the pad rather than rubbing it.)

Altenew Ruby Red card stock cut slightly larger than 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″ was carefully laid inside the folder keeping edges straight. The folder was then closed and run through the Platinum 6 using just one plate. (Other machines may require a different “sandwich” of plates.). This technique is called letter press. It is so dramatic with the depth of the 3D folder and gold. The letter press piece is set aside to dry.

One of the larger flowers from Garden Pieces 3D Dies was die cut and assembled using Ruby Red embossed paper, gold glitter paper and solid Ruby Red card stock.

The “happy” die is cut from gold glitter card stock. Anniversary (from Happy Pomegranate) is gold heat embossed onto black card stock and cut into a strip.

Woven Basket 3D Embossing Folder

Woven Basket 3D Embossing folder with gold heat-embossing on Parchment Card Stock

I was so happy to see this basket weave 3D Embossing Folder in the December 2021 release! It seems to pair perfectly with any Altenew flower.

Clear Embossing Ink was patted on the inside of the embossing folder on the debossing side. Antique Gold Embossing Powder was added and heat-embossed. This resulted in all of the tiny squares being filled in with gold. I then randomly patted the clear embossing ink around the card stock and heat embossed it resulting I’m the scattered patches of gold.

Paint-a-Flower Rosa Floribunda was stamped in Obsidian Black Ink then colored with alcohol markers. This does not come with a die so I fussy cut the image. (I LOVE to fussy cut.). I then went around the edges of the image with a black marker to avoid any white edges.

I die cut the silhouette image of happy birthday (Just a Number Die Set) from gold mirror card stock. I colored a scratch piece of white card stock with the alcohol markers used in the Rosa Floribunda for an ombre look then die cut it with the other portion of the happy birthday.

A few of my favorite tiny Altenew sequins finished this birthday card just in time to send it to a friend.
