A Year in Review

Thank you, Norine Borys thevelvetlemon.com Your creations are exceptional!

What an Altenew Year it has been for me!

With AECP accomplished, this year was about learning and improving my skills as an Educator. The technology side of being an Educator continues to be my greatest challenge. But I can now copy and paste and create a challenge or blog hop post with ease. Putting a water mark under my project photo is easy peasy. I can resize a photo to meet blog requirements . . . no problem.

The photography still needs work.

I cannot thank my Altenew BFF Bridget Casey enough for her help with Zoom classes. She has allowed me to teach on her Saturday Workshops once a month for the past year. She has monitored my classes and is now coaching me to fly on my own the second Wednesday of each month. She is my Altenew guardian angel. The Saturday Workshop International friends have been super supportive. Their friendship the past year has literally meant the world to me.

My son-in-law also needs to be commended for his patience as he coached me through posting on Instagram. He actually put together PDF step-by-step instructions with photos! Smart guy! It saved a lot of late night phone calls from his needy mother-in-law.

For me, it takes a village. The Altenew staff has been my village. To customer service, Erum, Virginia, Lydia and Hannah I send my deepest appreciation.

This assignment sounded so simple. . . choose favorite Altenew projects you’ve made this year.

It was kind of like going through old photos. Each project made me stop and reminisce or recall a technique or think of that great feeling of satisfaction when a project was complete.

Oriental Orchid

Mixed Media is just so fun if you don’t mind getting a little messy. It is a favorite technique of mine. This card represents so many of my favorite things. I love Asian art. I love gold. I love layers, flowers and embossing paste with stencils. This has it all.

Timeless Tapestry

Piles of die cut images are one of my favorite things. Moving all of the flowers and leaves around on a blank slimline canvas was such creative fun. There always seems to come a point where I say, “That’s it!”. I take a photo, get out the Press and Seal and glue it down.

Spectacular Adventures

The blended background became one of my favorite techniques this year. I call this card a Pam Creation because it totally came out of my imagination and an obsession with those glasses.

Pretty Pomegranate.

There was a blog hop where we were to make something with an image or technique that started with the first letter of our first name. Pretty Pomegranate is one of my all-time favorite stamp and die sets. While making this I discovered I could paint with ink sprays and create a texture I loved.

Fairy Tale Rose

I just idolize Erum’s water color marker projects. I start and stop her videos and try to duplicate what she does. I’m improving. This tag/slimline card was a project for my debut Second Wednesday virtual class. I love teaching and hope to improve my skills during 2022. I will continue virtual classes but also begin teaching in person once again. Hooray!

Comfy Sofa, Tufted Chair
Torch Ginger

Finally I need to show you that I don’t NEED to gold emboss everything.

  3. Your cards are beautiful. Congrats on your learning journey. I am still intimated by all of the digital stuff it takes to create a blog and post. Instagram is the easiest for me but I still need to learn photography as well. You will grow as you are working on it. Kudos to you!

    1. Li, I encourage you to just jump in and give it a try. If I can do it ANYONE can do it. I’ve found it just takes a little practice and keeping a few notes on how I did it. The photography is a continual challenge. But it feels so good when one comes out the way I had hoped. Thanks for your nice comment.

  4. It’s all about practice, isn’t it? And the willingness to try new things. I will never catch up with my grandchildren’s ease with technology. But at least they know I’m trying!! Lifelong learning???? Thanks for your encouragement and leaving a comment on my blog.

  5. Pam! Your journal entry really touched me as I’m in level 2 of the educator program and TOTALLY understand the challenge of technology! I had to use my sons who are in their 20’s to help mom along! I look forward to seeing more of your work and perhaps take a class or two with you with Bridget! I also reached out to her for some big sister help and she is a godsend!

    1. You will love the AECP community. Meeting everyone is the best part of the program. The virtual classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are a great way to meet people and learn new techniques. The AECP Workshops are also a great way to get involved. I appreciate your comments and wish you a happy journey through the AECP Program. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.

    1. That is my favorite as well.. I still have it. I haven’t been able to part with it quite yet.
