Alphabet Name Game

Altenew Blog Hop and Linky Party +Giveaways

Nandini (nanspaintpaperscissors.blogspot.com), thank you for sending the Altenew Blog Hoppers my way!

What a great theme for a Blog Hop! The first letter of my name is P.

Flipping through my Altenew stash for all things starting with “P”was an amazing experience. I had no idea so many dies stamps and sentiments started with “P”. Poinsettias, Painted Rainbow, Peaceful Reverie, Pen Sketched Flower (a favorite), lots of Peonies, Peruvian Lily, Pomander (Really fun one), Poppy, Positive Vibes, Pansies (My mother’s favorite), Primrose and my choice …. Happy Pomegranate.

I had never seen a pomegranate until my college roommate gave me one for a snack. What’s not to love about bright magenta-colored juice with seeds? Fast forward “a few” years and I live in the southwest where Pomegranates grow well. I can just walk across the street and pick one from my neighbor’s tree. Immediately I have pomegranate seeds to add crunch and color to my salad.

I’ve found Pomegranates dry easily and make beautiful additions to holiday decorations mixed in with pine cones and greenery. Once dry they last for many years.

So, back to the Blog Hop . . .

My “P” Projects:

Pretty Painted Pink and Purple Pomegranate with Peace, Pine Cones and Pine Branches.

The background for this tag/slimline card was made with Woodgrain white cardstock. A Clear Embossing pad was lightly swiped across the raised portions. Antique Gold Embossing Powder was added and heat-set.

Pomegranate and leaf images were gold heat-embossed on water color cardstock. Altenew’s water color markers were used to color them. (I LOVE those water color markers so much I’ve had to order refills.)

Pine Cones (From Poinsettia and Pine stamps and dies) were gold heat-embossed on Altenew’s Parchment Cardstock. Espresso ink was blended with a small blending brush onto the pinecone.

Pine branches from Altenew’s Peace on Earth stamp and die set were stamped in Moss then die cut.

Various thicknesses of glue, tape and foam tape helped to give more depth to the images.

Here are some tips and tricks:

Adding Dimension

In order to slip a pine cone under the leaf I cut further into the image to create a third layer.

Adding Glitz

Altenew’s Antique Gold Ink Spray is a favorite of mine for spritzing and spraying. For the pomegranates I used a paint brush and painted the liquid over my water-colored images. It gave tiny dots of glitz and actually altered the color to one closer to an actual pomegranate.

Project #2

The goal for project #2 was to get the hottest Pink color I could to highlight another “P” with my Pomegranate. Altenew’s water-color markers did not disappoint. Look at this PINK!!!

The stark heat-embossed black and white from Altenew’s background stamp Woven Stripes makes the Pink even Pinker!

The sentiment is from Altenew’s Label Love.

Project #3

Some time ago I watched a video by Yana Smakula where she used alcohol markers to totally color a background black. That technique has become a favorite for me. It’s something I am compelled to try with almost every stamp I get. I just never tire of seeing the results.

The sentiment is from Altenew’s Essential Sentiment Strips Die Set. I die cut it in black and placed Altenew’s Pink Brilliance Glitter Cardstock underneath. Wink of Stella adds a little sparkle to the pomegranates.

Thanks so much for stopping by. If you have questions or comments, I would love to read them. They might also earn you an Altenew Gift Card!

    1. Thank you Meghan.
I am addicted to gold. I don’t consider most cards finished until they’ve gotten a little magic touch of gold.

  5. Love, love these Pomegranate cards, Pam. What a talent you have! Thanks for sharing the beauty with us.

  6. P.S.
What you said about being addicted to gold and that your cards aren’t finished until you add some gold is how I feel about GLITTER! Yes, girl, Miss Piggy and I love the stuff! My cards seem flat until they get some glitter and shine. 😎😎😎 Warm hugs from San Antonio, Texas.

  7. Wow, your slim line is really pretty! Impressive work. (Just get the neighbor’s permission before grabbing their fruit 😉

    1. Ha. Ha. My husband came home from golf one day with a story of a golfer pulling an orange off someone’s tree and getting in BIG trouble.

  9. Wow! Your cards are absolutely beautiful! I love how you created the wood grained and gold background!

    1. Thank you so much. Altenew has woodgrain cardstock and also a wood plank embossing folder. The secret of my style of gold embossing is to stamp randomly with clear ink. Dump embossing powder over it. Then use a brush to brush away embossing powder so it is random with not lines.

    1. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I’ve just posted my samples for today’s Free Saturday Workshop with the Perfect Poinsettia 3D Embossing folder. Check it out.

  10. Gorgeous cards with these beautiful poms! I love the details on each card, and your coloring is *P*erfection!

  11. Pam, your pomegranate cards are luscious! Beautiful colors and gold embossing add the elegant touch. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks for the positive feedback. Most of the time my style is about gold and elegant. It’s just so right for the holiday season.
