Making Cards with Acetate

July 15, 2023

Jennifer McGuire was the inspiration for this class. I highly recommend her blog and YouTube videos for making cards with acetate. Reference Acetate Cards or Clear Cards to find them.

These cards can be made without acetate. Just make an A2 top-folding cardstock base.

My first card uses a top folding A2 acetate base.

(3) 4 x 5 1/4″ White Cardstock

Beveled Squares Stencil

Tropical Forest Family of Inks or any color for background

Blending Brush

Magnolia Ballerina Stamps and Dies. ( Any outline stamp with a die will work. In fact, a smaller image might even be better.)

Alcohol Markers of your choice

If you have a chance prior to class. stamp the Magnolia Ballerina (or flower of your choice) in alcohol ink friendly black ink on 5 x 7 white cardstock. This is a large outline flower image. Stamp it like you would a detailed sentiment, over and over lightly inking each time. If you press on it, you will get shadows . . . trust me, I know!

Choose the alcohol ink colors you wish. You will want 3-4 shades of two colors and green. Or your can color both flowers the same color.

I used Warm and Cozy and Enchanted Garden with Tropical Forest. Another card was colored with Lapis Lazuli and Pocket Full of Sunshine with Green Valley.

Because this will be die-cut and have a white edge, this is a good time to stay inside the lines. We’ll go slow and careful with the coloring. Remind me to slow down if I get carried away.

This is another version of that card.

Bonus Card

You will need heat-resistant acetate A2 side folding for this card.

(Simon Says Stamp has 8 1/2 x 11″ sheets of it. Hero Arts has pre-cut, side- folded acetate cards that are heat resistant.)

White cardstock 7 1/4 x 5 1/2″ creased in half. This will be inside the acetate card but with the fold on the right. 1/4″ is cut from the front edge (on the left). A 1/4″ strip of silver glitter cardstock is adhered on the inside. Refer to photo.

Ink blend Enchanted Garden and Glacier Caves. Sprinkle with water. Spritz with Iredscent Spray.

Die Cut Fancy Peace in white and silver glitter cardstock

You will also need lots and lots of anti-static powder, white embossing powder and clear embossing ink.

I will be using the mini snowflakes from Altenew.

One more acetate card using the Craft-a-Flower Zinnia and Wicker Texture 3D Embossing Folder.

I teach virtually once a month on Bridget Casey’s Free Saturday Workshop and the second Wednesday of the month. In person I teach at Bluemoon Scrapbooking in Tucson, Arizona.

Altenew announces my classes in their newsletter.

I am taking some time off this summer. My full schedule will return in September.
