Pantone Color 2022 and More

Educator’s Blog Hop

Very Peri

Thank you @crown_focus for sending Altenew fans my way.

What a great assignment! I love this year’s Pantone Color and will enjoy using it throughout 2022. Periwinkle is an ethereal color that each of us envision in our own way. It’s easier to say what it’s not than what it is! It’s not purple. It’s not blue or pink or lavender. But it’s a gorgeous combination of those colors.

Blending Altenew alcohol markers I attempted to create this elusive color. Using a combination of the Lapis Lazuli and Enchanted Garden families I think I came close to my idea of periwinkle. In my mind it’s more purple and blue.

The Altenew Exotic Tulips stamps seemed ideal for displaying this beautiful color. Tulips represent Spring. Their graceful lines and waxy texture can show off the monochromatic blends of blues and purples to create periwinkle.

Masking is fun for me. This card required a lot of masking made easier with Altenew’s masking paper.

Masking

The leaves and stems were stamped with Altenew’s Lime Crisp Dye Ink. Then the masking paper was carefully removed. Flowers were colored with Lapis Lazuli and Enchanted Gardens alcohol markers. The two families blended beautifully. I concentrated on the lighter colors with the dark colors only for shadows.

Coloring with Alcohol Markers

Several iterations of this card were attempted before I achieved what I wanted. You will see some of the first color variations in my photos.

The background was then colored with a black alcohol ink marker. The leaves have a wispy quality which required a little wispy flicking with my black marker.

By itself the card seemed too dark to me. By adding the Fine Frames Cover Die in white I was able to achieve the overall lightness that was intended.

The sentiment is from Simple Greetings die Set. Because it includes a shadow I was able to use my markers and blend it in perfectly with the colors in the card.

Pysanka, Doodled Lace Cover Die and Water Color Markers

I will be teaching this card on Saturday, April 9th on Bridget Casey’s Free Saturday Workshop. This is a design from Ukraine!
