Water Lily Craft-a-Flower

Water Lily Craft-a-Flower

If I were forced to choose a favorite from the monthly subscriptions it might have to be the Craft-a-Flower. When the beautiful Altenew box arrives, CAF is always the first package I open.

Maybe it’s a tactile thing? Assembling cardstock of different color gradients and textures Is instant gratification. There’s also a puzzle element to it as different pieces are accepted or rejected when the flower is assembled.

The whole process is just amazing. It all comes together beautifully. The depth and realism is just extraordinary.

Water Color Marker Refills

For deep, vibrant colors I choose to use Water Color Marker Refills for this project. Scrap water color paper was spritzed with water. Drops of the Water Color Marker Refills were blended then left to dry.

I then selectively placed the dies to take advantage of the different shading on the colored water color paper.

No CAF project is complete without a little glitter. One or two layers of the lily were cut from Altenew Glitter Cardstock.

The background is also made with Water Color Marker Refills. Once it was dry I used an anti-static pouch then clear embossed the lightening image from Rain or Shine to add texture and a little more design. I gave the edges of the water color paper a ragged cut to also add a little texture and highlight the water color paper.

The sentiment (Bold Sentiments) was stamped with Altenew Crisp Dye Ink then clear heat-embossed.

CAF Water Lily with Goldfish Pond

When I started making this I thought I would use the Altenew Mini Frog. Then I found Altenew had no Mini Frog! (I have put in a request.). These beautiful goldfish were even better. They are colored with the new Golden Sunset Alcohol Markers.

The background started with Wavy Grid Stencil and embossing paste colored with Sweet Leaf Watercolor Brush Marker Refill. After it dried that was sprayed with Ocean Waves and Dusk. I was going for the look of an old pond with tile.

The water lily was die cut from white cardstock, Green Meadows Gradient Cardstock and Gilded Glitter Cardstock. This is one of the easiest CAFs to assemble.. No problem.

I’ll let you in on a little issue with the sentiment. Happy is from Just a Number and anniversary is from Rosa Gallica. (But that’s not the issue.) If you look at the Wavy Grid you will see (as its name suggests) the lines are not straight. They are wavy. That’s fine until the sentiment needs to look straight on a wavy lined background. I needed to carefully put the sentiment over the lines so they were hidden.

Thanks for checking this out. It is one of my favorites.

  2. oh my goodness Pam, you are so darn talented and I love it! I love what you did with the alcohol inks and these projects! I too like the Craft A Flowers, but they can be tedious– but I like how you put it how you have a method to it and find joy in it and you are quite right, it does bring joy and is worth the work! The results are always so stunning.
    Xoxo
